Nottingham Insurance‘s history began over 100 years ago when one local businessman saw an opportunity to serve his community. Read about our agency’s history.
Nottingham Insurance was founded in 1917, when visionary Major Voorhees Nutt founded the M.V. Nutt Agency in Hamilton, NJ. With a steadfast commitment to serving clients’ needs and a vision for building strong relationships, Major laid the cornerstone of what would become an enduring legacy in the insurance industry.
After surviving the Great Depression, a pivotal moment in our history arrived as Major’s son, Stanley Nutt, joined the agency. His dynamic energy and unwavering dedication to his new profession propelled the agency’s evolution, leading to its transformation into the Stanley Nutt Agency several years later. This shift symbolized a new era, with Stanley carrying forward his father’s commitment to excellence.
The year 1965 marked the beginning of another new generation, as Jack Blair Sr., Stanley’s son-in-law, quit his job at Ford Motor company to join the family business. Under Jack’s guidance, the agency embraced change, prompting another rebranding, this time to Nottingham Insurance. This evolution captured the essence of legacy and the agency’s expanding horizons.
Following in their father’s footsteps, Jack Blair Jr. and Greg Blair joined the agency in the 1980s as fourth-generation insurance agents. Their fresh perspectives and dedication to the agency’s values propelled Nottingham Insurance to greater heights, while preserving its reputation for trust and reliability.
After the turn of the century, Nottingham Insurance‘s story of growth continued through a series of mergers and acquisitions. In 2004, we merged with Fell & Moon, a Pennsylvania-based insurance agency. This strategic move allowed us to cross state borders and expand our agency’s geographic reach.
Over a decade later, Nottingham Insurance acquired three agencies: the Gindin Agency in 2016, RP Bonnani Agency in 2019, and Worthington Insurance in 2021. These strategic acquisitions helped us grow both our staff and book of business, further cementing our position as the agency of choice for the Tri-State area.
Today, Nottingham Insurance stands as a testament to the resilience, adaptability, and enduring values that Major Voorhees Nutt instilled over a century ago. Through four generations of visionary leadership, strategic partnerships, and a commitment to clients, the agency’s journey remains a beacon of excellence, integrity, and unwavering dedication.
